The Worst Times to Gamble

For those struggling with gambling too much, there may never be a great time to gamble. But there are scenarios that make online gaming or going to the casino a bad bet for anyone. Here are a few of the top times you might want to steer clear of gambling.

  1. When You’re Intoxicated (Or About To Be) - There’s a reason brick and mortar casinos like to keep the alcohol flowing, and that’s because it lowers inhibitions. Any boundaries you may have set for yourself suddenly don’t seem as important, and before you know it, you could be in a debt much deeper than sober you is comfortable with.

  2. When You Don’t Have Much Financial Surplus - This one might seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people gamble even when they’re in shaky financial territory. It’s normal to want to let loose and try to forget life’s problems, but if you don’t have a ton of extra funds, it would truly make life easier to find another form of socialization and relaxation.

  3. When You’re In a Bad Mood - You might think swinging by the casino or pulling up your favorite online betting site would boost your mood. Sure, winning some money might temporarily help, but on the flip side, a major loss of cash is only going to upset you (and possibly others) even more. This is why emotional gambling is best to avoid altogether.

  4. When You’re Trying To Recoup A Loss - Trying to regain finances lost to gambling by gambling more is like trying to retain water with a colander. Whatever you do gain, you’re likely to lose again due to the cyclical and addictive nature of gambling. If you’ve already spent too much and you feel immense anxiety over it, the best thing to do is stop, save, and strategize. There are other ways to recoup money than by doing the same thing that took it from you in the first place.
